Got visual on the runway as expected, circling to lose altitude
Approaching Copacabana Airport, coming in a bit low over the ridge
Aligning with the runway for short final
Oops! The sharply rising terrain was quite deceptive, I seem to have run out of airspeed!
I hit the grass some distance short of this rather unusual runway
No black smoke though, so could be worse :)
Slowly taxiing uphill (the engine does seem to manage it though)
Vacating the runway...
...and parking on the grass
Later in the evening I returned to fly this twin Navion back to La Paz (I was going to fly the SOCATA Rallye, but its strangely functioning front gear wasn't able to cope with the combination of uneven terrain and high winds)
Altimeter set, now starting up
Taking the runway a minute or two later
Taking off downhill
Heading back for SLLP - full throttle required to maintain airspeed in the thin air (glad I had that downhill slope to help with the takeoff!)
